What is upper back pain? Upper back pain is a pain that is felt on the upper back or also called a thoracic spine. Upper back is the part of the cervical spine (neck) and above the low back (lumbar spine). Upper / middle pain is rare when compared with lower back pain because the bones in this part do not move or rotate as much as the bone at the bottom or neck.

What Is The Cause Of Upper Back Pain

The cause of upper back pain varies from person to person. This can be due to someone’s activity. Some causes of upper back pain include:

  • Improper lifting
  • Bending too long or slouch when sitting
  • Too much exercise
  • Too heavy lifting
  • Overweight
  • Injury or accident
  • Smoking

In general, the cause of the upper back is similar to the cause of the other back pain (middle and low back pain) that is poor posture, sitting too long without rest for walking or stretching can cause upper back.

The thoracic spine is a complex construct of bones, connective tissues, nerves, muscular tissues, spinal segments, and joints. While the thoracic spine has a stable creation and is quite strong, it is able to also be a root of pain.   • Worsen while you do specific actions or move and take a seat in a sure manner.

More severe signs and symptoms that need to be treated right away include:

  • A weak point in your hands or legs.
  • Numbness or tingling in your arms, legs, chest, or stomach.
  • Loss of bowel or bladder control.

    I pretty much always have upper back pain because I have a job where I sit in front of a computer 8 hours a day. I usually have to have my husband massage it out all the time. I tend to slouch a lot while I’m working and forget to get up after a long time of sitting. I tried sitting on one of those exercise balls but it didn’t seem to work for me. I can’t wait to read your post about dealing with upper back pain!

    Good information… Could you expand on other areas, such as shoulder pain?

    It is very interesting to read about different systems of back pain. I get back pain quite often due to the fact that I have vision loss and I hold myself differently then the average person; therefore my spine keeps getting out of alignment. I find the Yoga helps quite a bit with that.
